Overview

Principle, a leading-edge firm delivering solutions in architecture, real estate development, planning, and urban design, seeks an Urban Planning associate to join our team immediately. This position is remote, with preference given to those residing in the Portland, Maine region to optimize opportunities for in-person collaboration both locally and occasionally in Boston.

Role

As our Planner associate, you will perform under the general supervision of the Planning Director. Your duties will involve technical and professional work in form-based coding, comprehensive planning, master planning, transportation, and development. You'll provide valuable information and assistance to municipal clients and developers, contributing fresh ideas and critical thinking skills.

This role requires an eager self-starter, ready to engage with changing housing and transportation-related legislation across New England and prepared to assist with diverse planning and zoning projects. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Community Development, Transportation Planning, or a related field.

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in a planning-related field.

  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, oral, and written communication.

  • Ability to problem-solve and work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Ability to engage and self-direct while working remotely.

  • Ability to communicate in a clear and timely manner with clients, consultants, and other team members.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Proficiency in SketchUp is preferred but not required.
